Talk about covering three very unique strategies in trading!  We had three very special guests join us on Trader Talk today, Mike Westmoreland from theTradingPlaybook.com, Steve Lentz from OptionVue.com and Bill Costarides of DTITrader.com.  Here are a few of the nuggets of wisdom that they shared with us:

  • With Current Volatility:
    • Take advantage of condors – use an indicator to check the environment before you do
    • Consider cutting size in half on short options
    • After hours market can bring huge benefits due to moves in overseas markets
    • Technicals can really come into play and help you on direction
    • Less is more, from contract size to the time frame that you trade in
  • Tightest Option Spreads are in the SPY, feel that this is an edge in today’s volatile market
  • Take a look at the market at night even if you aren’t going to trade it, it can give insight into the day’s market
  • Mike: Favorite technical trade setup is the pennant flag short term continuation pattern -this can be seen in the S&P right now, considered a bear flag pattern
  • Steve: Most attractive thing about his strategies are that you don’t have to pay attention to the direction
  • Bill: Much more consistency in the market at night. Slower trending and developing market, more of a trending market at night. No high-frequency trade programs, because there isn’t enough volume.
